No – you can make an appointment without a referral from your GP. However, if you would like to claim a rebate through Medicare you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) & Referral letter from your GP.
Sessions with a Registered Psychologist are approximately 50 minutes in duration. Business hours appointments are $220, while after hours appointments are $235. For clients with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan, a Medicare rebate of $98.65 applies.
Most consultations are between 50-60 minutes in duration. The last 5-10 minutes of a session are used for note taking and booking a future appointment.
